Yahoo Local Listings Changing?


It started late last week … We began to notice “issues” when attempting to claim & verify listings with Yahoo Local. Yahoo issued this technical status message at that time.

02/07/13 03:56 AM PST: Unable to access existing businesses or add a new business in Marketing Services Dashboard

Some Marketing Dashboard customers may have trouble accessing their existing businesses. Customers may also have issues with adding a new business to their dashboard.Customers may see the following error message:

  • Yahoo! Marketing Dashboard and Yahoo! Local scheduled maintenance: Due to planned system maintenance, several Yahoo! Marketing Dashboard and Yahoo! Local systems are currently unavailable. This maintenance is expected to last for approximately 3 hours. Please note that the end time of this maintenance may be subject to change. During the maintenance period, our systems to sign up for and create new Yahoo! Marketing Dashboards, and to claim, preview, edit, verify, and delete Yahoo! Local Listings are not available. We apologize for any inconvenience. For urgent issues, please contact customer care.

Our Engineers are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible.

(02/08/13) The Yahoo! Marketing Dashboard maintenance has been completed at this time. Thank you for your patience.

 

It states that the maintenance has been completed, but we are still having major issues with the claiming process …

No clear claiming path that ensures the correct listing is claimed & duplicates are NOT created. Listings that were pending verification can no longer be found in their dashboard.

 

Updates to the dashboard appear to be taking place as we have noticed some new features in the dash like the completeness meter that is now showing (see photo below).

 

 

We have temporarily halted any processing on Yahoo Local until these updates/changes have been resolved.  Updates to follow …   Thank You!

    We are seeing the same thing with many of our clients Yahoo listings. Ones that had been previously claimed or pending verification have completely disappeared from the dashboard. Leaving us to have to recreate the listing or claim the already existing one on Yahoo that we had set up originally. I do agree with you, we too are halting any efforts on updates or listing creation until this is taken care off.

    A couple years back when Bing updated their local listing platform to the Bing Business Portal (still in beta may i mention)we lost tons of listings that had already been created. With countless emails to Bing, nothing was ever restored and we had to start from scratch.

    If the engines are going to continually put emphasis on local listings, they need to ensure that business owners do not encounter these types of problem on a continual basis.
